Valentine's Day

Hi everyone!

What did everyone do for Valentine’s Day? Any creative spouses/friends out there??

We started a crazy tradition last year with our adult bible fellowship group. Carl was out of town and I had nothing to do/nobody to do anything for, so I cooked dinner for the couples in our group. Well, they all decided they wanted to repeat it this year - even wanted the same menu. Last year we had 4 couples. This year…….10 couples (20 people)!! So I made a very fancy 3 course meal for everyone. We served it in 3 separate rooms at a friend’s house, each room intimately decorated and each with their own server. We had a special meal (copy cat recipe) from Macaroni Grille, fancy salad, and 2 choices for dessert. Everyone had a great time. And they went home holding their overstuffed tummies!

Of course, the children here at home would not let me forget the tradition we have as a family, which is chocolate fondue on Valentine’s Day. They did let me delay it for 24 hours, so Friday evening we had our chocolate fondue and stayed up until 1:00 watching movies!

I was exhausted already Friday morning, so this morning (Saturday) I slept in. Sure did feel good. We have a 3-day weekend thanks to the Federal Holiday, so we are planning to take it easy and spend some good time as a family. The “cherry on top” is that I don’t even have to work this weekend!

We really would love to hear from more of the family members on this blog. We had thought it would be a good way to connect but it seems to have too few visitors! Molly and Caitlin, I need your email addresses!

Hope you all have a nice President’s Day!

Auntie

Wow! Caitlin, great photo. Thanks for posting. We have to get our vacation pictures up again and do it right this time.

Cheryl, you are quite a mom. That is a fun tradition for Valentines Day. I am afraid I never established much of a family tradition for that one.

Tom came strolling into my classroom in the middle of the afternoon with a bouquet of red roses and dark chocolate. It couldn't have been better. I was really surprised. Unfortunately it was during my prep period. It would have made a great moment for my students if he had come in with flowers and speaking French.

Today is a slow day. I actually teach only every other period. The freshmen are all in the gym for the whole day, having a retreat, playing games, bonding, getting acquainted, etc. Right now I have 4 sophomores who are in my 1st year class. They are quietly working on my own, so I have a minute to write during the day.

Thanks, Cheryl and Caitlin for keeping this going.

Love you all.

I'm sorry Auntie. I have been slacking on the blog. There is just so little time in the day.
But I'm going to sneak some Bettger's into my lunch hour.

Chocolate fondue does sound like fun. I wouldn't let you forget that one either. What movies did you stay up til 1am watching?

Oh, and I did have a date on Valentine's day. It was a great time. We just did dinner... and dessert. Two different restaurants.

A long time ago, I told my mom that I didn't like birthday cakes. She was upset that she couldn't really spoil me on my birthday. We soon found a compromise with coconut cream pie... and now I try to talk her into making one every time I come home.

Anyway, there is a restaurant in town that has a fantastic coconut cream pie. I took the lady (her name is Lauren) there for dessert and espresso. When you couple the sweetness of the pie with the espresso. Oh man! Taste overload.

The restaurant also has a bakery. One time when my whole family was walking downtown, I ran to the bakery and bought two "Coconut Cream Pie Bites" for my dad and myself. My dad also shares my CC Pie passion.
